ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Onondaga Community College is again being recognized for supporting veterans on campus.
GI Jobs magazine ranked OCC in the top 15 percent of colleges that offer exceptional veteran services for their students for the second year in a row.
Among its many veteran-friendly attributes, the college has a full service office and lounge that assists veterans with buying books, helps defer tuition payments and offers a computer usage and laptop loaning program.
OCC's veteran's program coordinator, who was also a veteran student at the college, says he feels that the campus' program gave him an advantage.
"So it was an area where I could go and talk and relate with other veterans and talk about experiences that we had in common. Which is not kind of the same relationship that you would have with the younger, 18-year-old student coming out of high school,” said Paul Holzwarth, Veterans Program Coordinator.
OCC's program was able to honor veteran graduates with red white and blue cords at last year's commencement and would eventually like to see veteran priority registration.
