SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- Senator Charles Schumer is pressuring FEMA to respond to requests from two Southern Tier school districts for flood recovery money.

More than a year after Lee hit, Binghamton City Schools are still waiting to hear if they will receive $39 million to rebuild MacArthur Elementary. Schumer has called for those funds to be released, as well as for FEMA to restore funding that was initially promised to the Maine-Endwell School District.

M-E was initially approved for $300,000 of the $400,000 needed to rebuild its maintenance shop. But FEMA has since reassessed and now plans to only provide $44,000 in reimbursement.
