SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse police have identified the homeless man killed in a fire Friday night. They say Timothy Wilkin, 40, died at a campsite along Interstate 690 near Catherine Street.

The fire was in a small opening between a concrete wall and the bridge. The investigation showed that an old grill got too close to a fire being used for heat and exploded.

The autopsy revealed the Wilkin died from smoke inhalation and burns.

Friends of the victim set up a small memorial along a highway on-ramp on Townsend Street Monday.
