MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Orange defense may have caught a break with Minnesota starting quarterback Marqueis Gray not getting the start Saturday. Gray hurt his ankle in last week's win over Western Michigan, but backup Max Shortell threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns in relief duty.
Shortell will get the start against Syracuse. The sophomore is a pocket passer, while Gray is a scrambler. Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill says their confident with Shortell under center.
