Syracuse police investigate possible scam

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Police Department is investigating a possible scam developing in the area.

Police say they've received two reports that happened on Hier Avenue and Crysler Street on Tuesday. In both cases, the elderly homeowners were approached by a suspicious man claiming to be from the Water Department who was looking into a water problem in the area.

The suspect entered one of the homes, but it appeared nothing had been taken and one homeowner asked for identification of the suspect, which he could not provide.

The Water Department confirmed there were no water issues in the area and that all employees carry work identification.

Police say the suspect was in his 40s or 50s, is between 5-feet, 5-inches and 5-feet, 9-inches tall and may have brown hair.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed or sees suspicious activity in the area to call 911.
