TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two people have died and another was critically injured in a crash in Tompkins County. It happened on State Route 13 in the Town of Newfield around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

State Police say Pamela Klemme, 56, of Syracuse was driving south when she drifted into oncoming traffic, hitting another car. She was taken to Cayuga Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The other driver, Seymour Smidt, 83, and his passenger Ruth Schwartz, 87, were both flown to the same hospital. Schwartz died from her injuries. Smidt was then flown from Cayuga Medical Center to Robert Packer Hospital in Pennsylvania where he is in critical condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
