JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- In an effort to bring students more information and get them involved, Jefferson Community College is highlighting some very important topics with some well-known guest speakers. It's called the Civic Engagement Series.
The school is putting the focus on things like environmental issues, wind power and even the presidential election.
International pollster John Zogby was recently in town to speak to students about voting. He says it's not only important to be involved, but to know why you are.
The school says it's events like these that make everyone hopeful about young people and their participation in all processes.
"We just feel it's very important at the college and center to find ways to bring information to people about civic engagement and who's getting involved and why," Dr. Ray Petersen, JCC Center for Community Studies.
Zogby told the audience they don't have to be the most informed to get involved, but to be as well informed as they can be.
