Shoppers wait hours for the iPhone 5

The Apple store at Destiny USA was one of many locations where iPhone shoppers waited for hours as the new iPhone 5 went on sale this morning. And as our Brad Vivacqua tells us, it was no surprise to see long lines for the latest Apple device.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It was 8:30 p.m. Thursday when Bill Thibert decided to wait outside the Destiny USA Apple Store for the new iPhone 5. Bill would be the first of about 100 people in line about 12 hours before the phone would go on sale at 8 a.m. Friday.

"I'm just kind of sitting here now, just waiting. Ah, it's only a couple more hours, so it's not bad,” said Bill Thibert.

Others expressed the same positivity after getting in line a few hours later.

"It's just something, the feeling of just having it, that first day and when you really like Apple products, a lot of times, you just want to have it," said Amy Ayers, a Lee Center resident.

Apple's latest iPhone is said to be thinner, lighter, and include 4G LTE connectivity for faster speeds. It's also touted as having better picture quality, battery life, and have new applications.

"The camera quality is a lot better and the phone overall is just bigger and better," said Morgan Sobotka, a Parish resident.

We weren't surprised to see so many iPhone 5 shoppers at the mall Friday morning. After all last Friday, Apple took in more than two million pre-orders for the new phone.

"I normally preorder it and have it shipped but I woke up at 6 a.m. on the day to pre-order it, and they were already sold out for delivery for today. So, I just had to have it the first day it comes out," said Ayers.

And at the hour it finally did come out, we had to ask...

"I'm psyched. I'm psyched to get my phone set up when I get home and get it restored from my backup and now I'm just exhausted, I want to get home and get it started and then go to bed," said Thibert.

And when Bill wakes up, it’s a sure bet his latest purchase will help him start his day on the right foot.
