LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Hundreds braved the wind and rain to have some fun and support a great cause. The 7th annual Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament was held at Onondaga Lake Park.
The tournament benefits the Bill Leaf and the Samantha Reynolds Scholarship funds. Both were killed by drunk drivers, and Bill Leaf's sister said a lot still needs to be done to curb the crime.
"The issue of drunk driving in the Central New York community is still a very serious problem. I think when people realize all the people who have lost lives, it's not just about my brother," said Maria Leaf, Tournament Organizer. "It's about anybody who has lost a life to a drunk driver that didn't need to lose a life to a drunk driver. That's what we use I guess, to keep the message out there and keep people coming back year after year."
Bill's scholarship is given yearly to an aspiring journalist at Syracuse University. Samantha's scholarship is established at Liverpool High School.
