CENTRAL NEW YORK -- The month of September is known as Hunger Action Month, and it serves as a reminder that our actions may be able to help. You can visit the Food Bank of Central New York's website to find the 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, which has some suggestions on how you can help.

The Food Bank of Central New York helps supply food to shelters and food programs across eleven counties in Central and Northern New York.

It's the time of year when the temperature drops and the holidays approach that the need for donations increases. The Food Bank helps supply about one million pounds of food to shelters every month, and donations can help ensure that everyone gets a healthy, nutritious meal.

Food Bank officials say starting a food drive at work or a donation yourself can go a long way.

"Take some kind of action on it. There's a number of ways you can do that. You can volunteer your time. You can make donations, you can do food drives. And, see what you can do to help people that depend on emergency food," said Brian McManus, CNY Food Bank Community Relations Coordinator.

The Food Bank of Central New York services counties range from Saint Lawrence to Chenango and Cayuga to Herkimer. You're encouraged to learn more about their services.
