SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- 'Neighborhood Innovations' officially launched the Homes of Syracuse community. They're collaborating with the Syracuse Housing Authority to build 50 single family homes in neighborhoods throughout the city.
The new homes will be for lease, with an option for purchase after a 15-year Tax Credit Program compliance period.
They feature various amenities and eight of the homes have adaptations for visual and physical impairments. These homes are available to specific income groups. Rent will range from 320 to 751 dollars a month.
"It fulfills an urgent community need as we all have been focused on for the past couple weeks for quality, affordable housing in this community...permanent quality affordable housing. This community needs more of that and this represents a great effort in that direction," said Paul Driscoll, Dept. of Neighborhood and Business Development.
"It's just a beautiful thing to have all of these beautiful homes and give us the opportunity to have our own home," said Michael Boyette, a Homes of Syracuse resident.
Residents will able to participate in numerous supportive services including credit counseling, budgeting and home maintenance to provide them with all the necessary skills of being a homeowner. They will also have access to many of the programs offered by the Syracuse Housing Authority.
