Forty teams, eight days, 2,500 miles. Fireball Run, Universal Studio's National Scavenger Hunt and Adventure Rally is in full swing. One of its stops was Jefferson County. Hundreds lined the streets for the games, cars and fun. As our Brian Dwyer reports, they're also helping raise awareness of a very good cause.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- From Independence, Ohio to Bangor, Maine, with a stop in Jefferson County. The 40 plus teams taking part in Universal Studio's Fireball Run, touted as an epic adventure rally, finished their Tuesday leg by first visiting historic Sackets Harbor.

Teams having to solve clues for a quasi scavenger hunt. Clues leading them to have to fire an antique musket and even shoot a cannon.

"These are things that the average person wouldn't get to experience or do. That's just really neat the way the town's welcomed you," rally competitor Greg Sidwell said.

The teams got quite the welcome when arriving in Watertown from Sackets. Hundreds lining the streets to check out the teams and their cars. There were all sorts of entertainment, highlighting the uniqueness and history of downtown.

Universal Studios is filming the entire event for an upcoming movie.

"Downtown looks beautiful," Greater Watertown North Country Chamber of Commerce President Lynn Pietroski said. "A lot of hard work went into this event. A lot of decorating downtown and we couldn't be prouder of our city."

"You have the show coming here, of course, but it's pretty neat that there is some historic value to Watertown," Watertown resident Dan More said. "I think it should be recognized a little more."

Of course, history is all part of the work those teams had to do once they got here. Teams have to not only figure out how to get their picture with Thomas Jefferson at the Paddock Mansion, but also Napoleon at the Flower Library.

"It's definitely a challenge. The clues are good. There are definitely a few brain twisters in there," rally competitor Ted Smoot said.

A great event and of course everyone having a ton of fun, but this is all, again, for a very good cause. Missing children. Over the years, Fireball Run has helped aid in the recovery of 38 missing children.

"Missing kids don't need money. They need media attention. They need exposure," Smoot said. "The information needs to get out there. We do the best we can."

Each team handing out hundreds of flyers, hoping anyone has information or posts the flyers so someone with information can see them.
