ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- An Oneida County man was stopped at Syracuse's Hancock International Airport checkpoint after TSA agents found a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag.

The TSA says the .25 caliber pistol was detected as it passed through the x-ray machine. Police responded and confiscated the .25 caliber pistol and ammunition.

The traveler, who was not identified, missed his original flight. He was not charged and was later allowed to rebook his flight.

The TSA says that unloaded firearms can only be transported in a locked hard-sided container in checked baggage.
