SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Central New York business that started only five months ago is taking off. Susann Panek-Rounds opened a business called Pint Size Pies in the spring and now her product is being shipped to the other side of the world.
Pint Size Pies started after Panek-Rounds' grandson wanted her to send him a pie while he was serving in Afghanistan. She began baking pies in jars with fresh fruit and a crust on the top and bottom, then canning them to send overseas.
Now, her initiative is to get people to buy the pies for troops this upcoming holiday season.
"We are kicking off a process where we hope to send a pie to a veteran where you'd buy a pie and we'll send it over," said Panek-Rounds.
Panek-Rounds was also asked to bake 800 half pint pies to go in the gift bags at the 33rd Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York City next week.
