ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira Jackals and First Arena are back in business after a deal was reached Thursday in bankruptcy court.
Elmira Downtown Arena LLC filed for Chapter 11 back in August, just weeks after a deal was struck to sell the arena to Elmira businessman Tom Freeman.
According to court documents, the former owner of the arena, Dr. Mostafa Afr has come to financial terms with the county and new owner, clearing the way for the sale to go through and the Elmira Jackals to return to the ice this fall.
Afr also owns the Jackals, but to date, there have been no successful negotiations over selling the team.
