OSWEGO, N.Y. -- John Gosek, the former Mayor of Oswego, will keep his level two sex offender status. The ruling on Gosek's status comes from the State Supreme Court Appellate Division.
Gosek served three years in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2006 for paying to arrange a sexual encounter with two teenage girls. He was assigned a level two sex offender designation in 2009 because the court believed there was a moderate risk that Gosek would re-offend.
Gosek appealed in an attempt to lower his status to level one, which would have removed his name from the sex offender registry after 20 years.
