MALTA, N.Y. -- A car crash in Saratoga County leaves two people dead, including a man from Madison County. The crash happened in the town of Malta on Thursday night.

According to Jay Moore of the Nuclear Power and Training Unit in Ballston Spa, Joshua Smith, 20, of DeRuyter, and Joshua Williammee, 20, of Texas, were both killed in the crash. State Police said the men hit an oncoming car while trying to pass another vehicle.

Both men were members of the U.S. Navy, and officials said they had just finished training in Charleston, South Carolina. They were scheduled to check in and begin their final phase of the program in West Milton on Monday. The other driver involved was taken to Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
