LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people were doing their part in the fight to end a debilitating disease. The Alzheimer's Association of Central New York held its 22nd annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.

A large crowd of 1,200 people gathered on Saturday at Long Branch Park for the event. Organizers are hoping to raise more than $150,000, and they said they were pleased with the turnout.

"The community is tremendously supportive of the work of the association, and we're here to help the families and friends, and then individuals living with the disease," explained Cathy James, CNY Alzheimer's Association.

The Alzheimer's Association said the disease that destroys someone's memory is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
