One killed, seven injured in overnight shootings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Police are investigating two separate shootings that left one person dead and seven others injured.

The first shooting happened in front of the B & B Lounge on South Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Police say three people were shot during a fight.

Rodney Maddux, 23, was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Jonathan Powell, 24, was also shot and is in stable condition. Dashawn Patterson, 30, is in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds. Both are also at Upstate.

The second shooting happened on Midland Avenue around 2 a.m. Sunday. A total of five people were hit with bird shot during this incident.

Those victims were identified as James Tyler, 20, Demetrius Dunlap, 21, Paris Perry, 20, Daniel Golden, 22, and Abril Shaw, 19, all of Syracuse. Police say none of their injuries are serious at this time.

Both shootings are under investigation and police say they believe they are separate incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Syracuse Police at 315-442-5222.
