DEWITT, N.Y. -- Children in Central New York are getting a field of dreams, thanks to the DeWitt community. Plans are in the works for $1.5 million project for a new baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields.

A fundraiser was held on Saturday to support the idea. Currently, organizers need to raise $1 million in order to turn the dream into a reality. For organizations that help special needs children, such as Syracuse Challenger Baseball, it would be a big boost.

"It's been so successful. We not have 220 children on 12 teams, and we're continuing to grow and we need to find a permanent site," explained Don Cambareri, Syracuse Challenger Baseball.

The organization is hoping to get help from the community and local businesses as well. They would like to have phase one of the project underway by August of 2013.
