SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Festival of Races celebrates its 20th year with 2,500 of its biggest fans. That is how many runners that organizers estimated crossed the finish line on Sunday in races like the Mens' and Womens' 5Ks and a 3K Fun and Fitness Run.
The race's director said the reputation the festival has built during the past two decades is part of what draws people in.
"We are hosting, for the fifth year in a row, the USA Masters, that's 40 plus, National Championship. Masters come from all over the country to run on this now nationally famous course out back on Meadowbrook where we've set 40 US records in the 5K distance," said Dave Oja, Race Director.
Organizers said at least one new record can be added to that list, which is the fastest 5K time in the U.S. women's 70-plus category.
