SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Thousands of people took a stand against breast cancer in Syracuse. Sunday was the 17th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which benefits the American Cancer Society.
Despite the rain downtown, organizers said more than 5,000 people walked for the cause. The goal is to raise money for the society's life saving patient support program. Leaders said the large turnout really helped the cause.
"I always say you never know what dollar is going to find the cure. That's our focus, and we're really happy to raise this money today," said Betsy Guilfoil, Director of Special Events.
The American Cancer Society said half of the women impacted by breast cancer request their services.
