CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Cayuga County man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend has waived his right to a jury trial.

Ryan Brahney is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Bridget Bell last November.

Police said Brahney stabbed Bell to death inside her home at Olympia Terrace Apartments in Auburn. They said it happened while their 3-year-old son was asleep upstairs.

Brahney is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, burglary, criminal contempt and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Opening statements are being made this afternoon in Cayuga County Court.
