Broome County inmate assaults officer
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- An inmate at the Broome County Correctional facility has been charged with assaulting an officer.
The sheriff's office says Jason Wheeler, 30, of Endicott, was being moved to a security housing unit for violating facility rules last week. While being searched, he punched a corrections officer in the face. The officer had to be treated for an eye injury, but has since returned to work.
Wheeler, who was serving jail time for felony burglary, arson and probation violation, is now facing an additional felony assault charge.
