BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- Many in the Baldwinsville School District went home happy Monday night after the school board decided to abandon a resolution to close Van Buren Elementary.

The proposal had been in talks for quite some time, but questions over what it would mean for adding full day kindergarten, among other concerns, led to a unanimous vote to kill the resolution. It was a decision that left a lot of parents feeling relieved.

"It's going to affect all the members in the community, property values, our children aren't going to have to be dispersed into other schools, overcrowding, a lot of issues that I'm not sure this board looked into when they were evaluating closing this school,” Wendy Vanderwater said.

The board says it will take a few years to look at adding full day kindergarten before making any decisions there.
