BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The College at Brockport campus came together to remember 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut, the freshman student from New Hartford who was killed over the weekend.
Police say Kogut's boyfriend, Clayton Whittemore, 21, is charged with beating her to death.
The school estimates more than 1,000 people, including Kogut's uncle, gathered for a private vigil in the school's boardroom Monday night. The school's president urged students to use the counseling center for support, or to learn more about domestic violence.
The school will hold a walk on Wednesday and present guest speakers on domestic violence.
