SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Salvation Army volunteers were honored at the 41st annual Civic Celebration luncheon.

It's a chance to thank the men and women who put time in year-round and acknowledge the progress and accomplishments they've seen around the community.

Organizers expect to raise more than $100,000 for the 2013 budget and say that without the help from volunteers, the Salvation Army would be unable to support the thousands of families in need each year.

"We want to bring before the community opportunities to volunteer, to contribute to the Salvation Army's efforts. Last year, we hit close to 3,000 families. This year, we expect to see 3,000 families come to our doors for Christmas assistance," said Major George Polarek, Salvation Army of Syracuse CEO.

If you'd like to volunteer or donate to the Salvation Army, visit www.sasyr.org.

Time Warner Cable, YNN's parent company, was also a sponsor the event and Time Warner Cable Sports' General Manager Doug Logan kicked off Tuesday's program.
