SYRACUSE, N.Y. – One-hundred-fifteen jobs. That was the impact of Monday's layoffs at the Syracuse Post-Standard. The paper has announced the results of their re-organization plan.
Beginning February 1st, the Post-Standard and Syracuse.com will combine to form a new digital company called Syracuse Media Group, along with a partner company called Advance Central Services Syracuse. The paper will also be delivered just three days a week starting January 1st.
Editor and Publisher Stephen A. Rogers says that 278 employees were offered jobs with the new companies. Eighty-nine full-time and 26 part-time employees were offered severance packages and help finding new jobs.
As part of the reconfiguration, about 60 new jobs will open up. The open positions will be posted within a week on Syracuse.com.
