SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse is one of the best cities for the sport of triathlon. That's according to the website Active.com, which ranked Syracuse sixth on its list. Cities were evaluated by the site's triathlon and swimming editor who has been competing in triathlons since 2000.

The criteria for the designation were based on high-quality cycling routes, a variety of running trails and easy access to swimming. The ranking also considers the number and quality of training groups, tri, bike and run clubs, coaches, and local races.

Last year, the Central New York Triathlon Club was the third largest in the country, and has continued growing through this year.

The cities coming in ahead of Syracuse on the list include San Diego, Tucson, Boulder, San Francisco and Minneapolis.
