GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. -- More information is becoming available about the closure of E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur. The state released its closure notice, which outlines the specific reasons of why the hospital's lab was shut down.
The report cited an incident early in September that involved a patient being given the wrong blood type. Following that incident, the state restricted the actions of the lab, in order to try to fix the problems.
However, the lab also failed a state test, in which the state sends a sample to the lab, and the lab must test it and report the results. The lab accidentally switched that sample with another one.
Some positive was new was also released on Wednesday. YNN confirmed that a team from Canton-Potsdam Hospital went to E.J. Noble to access the situation, and help draft a corrective action plan. Also, Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown is working on a commitment letter which will outline how the hospital can assist E.J. Noble in reopening.
More information is expected to be available on Friday. The hospital could reopen as early as next week.
