STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former court clerk in Steuben County has been arrested following a five month investigation into a dozen irregularities found in a court record audit.
In one instance, Shawn Wellington, 41, is accused of pocketing cash from a paid fine for a traffic ticket. Sheriff's deputies say a receipt was issued by Wellington to the person who paid the ticket, but the money associated with the transaction was missing and the entry in the database was erased.
Wellington was removed from her position in September 2011.
She is charged with falsifying business records, official misconduct and petit larceny. The investigation into the audit is continuing.
