AFGHANISTAN -- An Onondaga County man has been killed while serving overseas. The Department of Defense says Sergeant First Class Daniel Metcalfe of Liverpool died on September 29th. Metcalfe was injured when his unit was attacked by enemy forces in Afghanistan.

Metcalfe served with the Italy-based 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the second battalion, 503rd infantry regiment.

He was 29-years-old and grew up in the Rochester area, attending Penfield High School. Sergeant Metcalfe is survived by his wife and three children.
