BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Mayor of Binghamton is encouraging citizens to be ready to open their hearts and their wallets Friday, helping firefighters raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Ryan hosted a press conference with Binghamton firefighters Thursday to announce the details of the Fill the Boot campaign. Firefighters will be at the corner of Clinton and Front Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday collecting donations from motorists who wish to support the MDA.
Officials with the organization say fundraisers like the Fill the Boot campaign are critical.
"Fundraising events like Fill the Boots is the primary way the MDA does raise money to provide local programs and services. We do not receive any money from the federal or state government," said MDA Binghamton Executive Director Laura Lee Friedah.
MDA seeks to provide help to people of all ages who are affected by any one of the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases that they research.
