CENTRAL NEW YORK -- You may notice law enforcement officers on the roof of a Dunkin' Donuts today, and it's all for a good cause. The "Cops on Top" Campaign raises awareness and helps collect donations for Special Olympics New York. A donation can get you anything from a free donut or coffee, to a T-shirt or a few pounds of coffee.

Money raised will support about 56,000 athletes in New York State.

"Every Special Olympic athlete that participates in training and in any games we have or things like that, it's all free of charge, we never charge them or their families, a dime to do what they do, so every little bit of money helps," said Michael Murray, NYS Corrections Department.

"They look forward to Special Olympics. It helps them stay in the mainstream with society and if you go to any of the events you'll realize how important it is, it's just very, very special," said Tom Santurri, Dunkin' Donuts franchisee.

Officers will be on the rooftops until 6 p.m.
