CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- There's a push to have green energy power Central New York homes.

Solarize Madison showcased several of their houses today to show how homeowners use solar panels. People traveled to Canastota, Chittenango and Morrisville Saturday.

A state program is helping people add the technology at a low cost. Organizers say people are turning to solar energy for multiple reasons.

"Anywhere from city or fixed costs for their electricity so they can eliminate that bill out of their monthly expenses. Some people are doing it for environmental reasons," said Jan Myers with Solarize Madison.

Twenty-three people and one municipality are working with Solarize Madison so far. Madison County property owners have until Friday to enroll in the solar energy program.
