SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Taps was played by a Civil War re-enactor as part of a special ceremony in Clinton Square Tuesday.

People were dressed up because the Onondaga Historical Association is re-releasing its guide to the Civil War flags kept at the county courthouse. It provides a unique insight on the war and a list of historical areas around the City of Syracuse, including the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Clinton Square.

"Onondaga County and New York State played a major role in the Civil War and I think it's something everybody should learn and honor," said Gregg Tripoli, OHA Executive Director.

The guide can be bought at the Association's Gallery. It also includes a Twitter project that gives a new perspective on the war through journal entries kept by Civil War soldiers.
