GREENE, N.Y. -- Parents and athletes in the Greene School District are fighting to get the head football coach back on the field in time for this Saturday's game.
Coach Tim Paske was suspended this week for the remainder of the season for what district officials say is a "personnel issue." Officials have refused to go into detail and remained tight-lipped at Wednesday night's board meeting.
Close to a hundred people showed up, forcing the meeting to be moved to the high school auditorium. Many asked the board to confirm whether the suspension was because the coach allowed the team to skip Friday's homecoming parade, which has been widely rumored. The board offered no answers, but did say they were meeting with Paske during their executive session.
Parents we spoke with at the meeting say they're just stunned.
"I was shocked, just floored. I mean, he's such a good person, good character. He's instilled such good morals in our youth and I mean, just flabbergasted," Marcia Wells said.
Despite the meeting with Paske, the board did say that no decisions would be made immediately regarding the suspension. His full time job as a physical education teacher in the district has not been affected.
