SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two Central New York firefighters were honored for their service to the community through two separate programs.
The Deputy Chief Hank Boynton Award was presented during a ceremony Wednesday at the McMahon-Ryan Child Advocacy Center in Syracuse. The award is given annually to people who show leadership and dedication, teaching children about fire safety.
Lieutenant Beth Cousins with the Syracuse Fire Department created a series of fire safety education videos for the Syracuse City School District to show students numerous times throughout the year.
Cousins said, "The fire safety DVD that we developed teaches kids about stop, drop and roll, not to play with lighters and matches. We even touch on kitchen safety."
Lieutenant Christopher Halliday with the Manlius Fire Department was also presented an award for a different program in Manlius that works with students to help prevent fires.
Halliday and Cousins both say it's an honor to receive the award.
