SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse hockey fans will have a brighter experience when the Crunch take the ice this season. The War Memorial was upgraded with new lights.
Ephesus Technologies put up 147 new LED lighting fixtures. That's fewer lights and a brighter arena. The company estimates the Crunch will save 85 percent on their energy bill with the new lights and there's other bonuses to the technology.
"You'll never have to change a light bulb again. That's the key thing in maintenance saving. There's no more trying to get a boom truck in here and trying to change a light bulb. During a hockey event, you don't want to bring a boom truck in here on the ice,” said Joe Casper, President of Ephesus Technologies.
The Crunch's first home game is Saturday night against the Hershey Bears. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
