ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Firefighters put out an apartment fire in Endicott early Thursday evening.

Crews responded to 319 Exchange Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. No one was injured in the fire, but there is extensive damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage through the apartment.

The Endicott Fire Department was on scene and also received mutual aid from several other agencies.

"We did have a very quick response. Got here and got some water on the fire and thank God, we had enough manning to do that because any less manning and we wouldn't have be able to perform two in and two out for safety reasons for the firefighters," said Endicott Fire Department Captain Donald Collins.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but crews believe it was the result of a cooking accident.
