SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A 25-year-old man was stabbed at the Carrier Dome Friday night, while Syracuse University hosted the Men's Basketball Orange Madness event.
According to officials, the man was stabbed in the concourse area of the Dome around 9:30 p.m. The victim's name has not been released, but officials said he is not affiliated with the university. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he's listed in stable condition.
Police ended the Orange Madness event a half hour early, due to a number of fights breaking out during the event.
"None of the fights were serious, they were broken up very quickly, we had an adaquate amount of manpower. Both security staff, police officers, and Department of Public Safety were inside the dome. But, because of the disturbances that were continuing inside the dome, we made the decision to shut it down," said Tom Connellan, Syracuse Police Sergeant.
Connellan added that the Dome is a safe venue, and this is a rare event. The stabbing is still under investigation. If you have any information about this incident, please call Syracuse Police at (315) 442-5222.
"We were saddened to learn of the incident at the Dome last night. There is no place and no tolerance for anything like this, and future Orange Madness events will be designed to prevent incidents such as this. We are proud of the terrific partnership among Syracuse City Police, SU Department of Public Safety, and Carrier Dome security staff, and we are confident that their work will continue to maintain a safe and secure environment for our patrons who come to the Dome to enjoy the hard work and efforts of our student-athletes."
