SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A new foundation is launching in Syracuse to protect children from coast to coast. Safe and Sound with Amaya aims to make homes safer for children.

Scott and Deborah Deming are leading the new organization. Their granddaughter Amaya was killed last month in a tragic accident. The little girl stood up on a drawer trying to put a DVD in when the television toppled onto her. Now her grandparents want to prevent this kind of heartbreak from happening to others.

Scott Deming said, "We're going to print brochures. We're going to go to trade shows. We're going to get in front of as many people who take care of young children, especially toddlers, as we can. Young parents, old parents, babysitters, caretakers. And so our goal is to raise awareness so this doesn't happen as often as it's currently happening."

This weekend Amaya would have celebrated her third birthday.
