SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse firefighter has been suspended without pay following his alleged involvement in thefts from Home Depot stores.

Firefighter Lotan Mitchell, 30, was arrested last week along with three other people - Everton Mitchell, 59, Shaunell Hammonds, 37, and Sundai Tyler, 29. They are accused of stealing about $38,000 worth of merchandise from Home Depot stores in Central New York, and then returning the items.

All four are charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records.

Additionally, Syracuse Fire Chief Mark McLees says Lotan Mitchell has been suspended from the department without pay pending internal disciplinary charges. Regardless of the outside criminal investigation, the chief says fire department will serve Mitchell with its own internal charges and a hearing will be scheduled.
