NEW YORK – There is some good news for an area still reeling from flooding. $4.7 million in federal relief will repair damaged rail lines on the Chenango freight rail link. The money will be used to repair the track between Binghamton and Utica.

After the 2006 floods, 40 miles of service between Chenango Forks and Sherburne were damaged.

Repairing the line will help companies transport goods between Binghamton and Utica. It will also make it easier for businesses to move into vacant buildings, near the lines.

The Chenango County Industrial Development Agency still needs to raise more than $400,000 for the project.
