HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The request to cancel Thursday's three-way merger vote in the Herkimer, Ilion and Mohawk school districts has been thrown out by the state's Education Commissioner.
A petition was filed with the state last week alleging the districts' superintendents had not adequately informed the public on the merger plans. The districts have held several meetings to address public concern and the re-organization did pass a straw vote in September.
Commissioner John King ruled Wednesday that the vote will go on, and the districts say the polls will be open as planned.
The voting is scheduled to take place from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. in each area.
