SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A multi-million dollar project is well underway at Syracuse's Hancock International Airport. Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner unveiled the progress that's been made as part of the Passenger Terminal Security Access and Improvement Project.
The airport has taken on the $50 million project to improve the passenger experience and baggage screening time. Officials say the project has created 300 jobs, used local labor and will ultimately attract more low cost airlines. It will also be the first airport in New York State to become green certified, something Miner believes will benefit the region's economic development.
"We have become a community that is priding ourselves on being in the leadership of the sustainability environmental movement and so you see here that we're actually putting our words into practice," Mayor Miner said.
The project is currently one year into construction and is scheduled to be completed by September 2013.
