Ilion, Mohawk voters approve proposed school merger, but voters in Herkimer reject it

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- After a vote Thursday, voters in the Ilion and Mohawk school districts approved a merger that would have merged Ilion, Mohawk and Herkimer school districts together. Voters in Herkimer, however, had a different idea. They voted against the idea.

A proposal passed a straw vote last month, but needed to pass with voters on Thursday night.

Since Herkimer voters rejected the proposal, the merger process has stopped. The process cannot be put up for vote again until October of 2013.
