ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca city leaders heard concerns from residents at the latest gathering in a series of budget meetings. On Monday, people spoke out on topics like implementing a living wage, as well as arguing for and against cutting the Fire Department budget.

The mayor had originally proposed cutting four positions, but council agreed to eliminate just two instead. Others expressed concerns over the mayor's plan to create a new city manager position, to be appointed by the mayor.

The Common Council will vote on the 2013 budget next month. There is still one more public hearing next Tuesday.
