VERONA, N.Y. -- Police are reminding drivers to be on the lookout for deer on the road this fall. This comes after a deer caused a tractor-trailer to slam into a car in Verona around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. State Route 13 was closed for almost two hours as crews cleaned up.
Police say a driver slammed on the brakes trying to avoid hitting the deer, and the tractor trailer behind that car could not stop fast enough. They say the truck drove into the opposite lane to avoid hitting the car, but hit an oncoming vehicle instead.
Both people in that car, Charles DeWolf, 68, and Karen DeWolf, 63, were taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer, Erol Kara, 43, was not injured, and received tickets for failing to keep right and for inadequate tires.
