It's been a year since the North Country was shocked to learn of the murder of 12-year-old Garrett Phillips. A memorial concert and candlelight vigil was held Wednesday in Potsdam to honor Garrett's life. Our Barry Wygel was there and has the story.

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Troy O'Brien, a student at Potsdam High School, took it upon himself to plan the one year memorial for Garrett Phillips.

"I didn't hear about anything that was being done and I didn't think it could go unnoticed," said Troy O'Brien, the organizer of the event.

The 12-year-old was found murdered in his Potsdam home last October. To date, there have been no arrests.

Garrett's uncle opened the memorial by imagining what Garrett would say if he could speak from heaven.

"Oh, by the way Uncle Liam, I am with you right now. Love, Garrett John Phillips," said Liam Sweeney, Garrett's' uncle.

Organizers of the concert say the response from the community has been incredibly positive and you can tell by the sellout crowd.

"Everyone in the community 100 percent totally wants to help and so there was amazing support," said O'Brien.

The event included friends and family of Garrett, as well as people who just wanted to support the cause.

One of the most emotional moments of the night was when 12-year-old Ben Foster sang his rendition of The Beatles' "Let It Be."

The event is expected to raise thousands of dollars for the "Justice for Garrett" fund. The fund, which sits at over $40,000 is just waiting for someone to come forward with answers.
